Message from Bishkek

Zdrastvujte!

This morning at 4am we arrived to Bishkek after pretty smooth flight and pretty shaky landing. Well, the pilots from Turkish Airlines don’t care much…

At the Prague airport we passed easily check in with around 100 kg of overweight without any additional fee. Otherwise it would cost us quite a big portion of our budget. This way we could invest our savings in Istanbul where we had 2 hours long stop. In the first bar that we found at the airport they asked for 10.50€ for a beer so we took off quickly and decided for a better alternative – red wine from duty free shop. In a happy mood we continued with the flight. I must commend our airlines for delicious meal, we never had such catering before. Great food and pleasant crew.

After the arrival in the morning followed by easy jet lag, we took a nap for a while in the office of the travelling agency that arranged the transportation for us and at noon we checked it the Hotel Alpinist.

In the afternoon we took a nap again and in the evening we hit the downtown for the celebration of Victory over Fascism (9.5.). Everywhere on the streets we were meeting people with Mongolic traits on the face. It’s really an exotic for us here. In the shops you can buy everything like at home. Despite of the bank holiday, we filled up our food supplies for the next week, gas bombs and batteries.

Now we are going to cut the skins, repack the bags, count the food for the next few days and create a depot of the stuff we don’t need for the first part of our journey. Tomorrow morning we are heading off to Ala Archa – Racek chalet, where we will acclimate ourselves and we try to climb Korona, Slobodnaya Korea and Semionova Tianshanskeho.

Today we received a good news that up on the mountains is a lot of snow, all the cracks are covered up to the top and we have a hope that we didn’t carry the skis here for no reason. Temperature in 3200 should be around -2C, which are optimal conditions. Unfortunately the weather forecast for the next day is saying that we’ll be hanging around in the chalet and wander on the glacier to get the best possible acclimatization.

We hope that the weather will improve soon and we will be able to make some nice ascents with good pictures and couple meters of films which we of course will share with you.

Keep on watching us, and in a week we come back with experience from the first part of the trip and you’ll learn more on how we were and if the myths about half naked virgins on the Kirgiz summits are only legends or we really saw them. Today we saw few downtown that would stand out also in Slovakia. Of course we’ll share this with you as well J

Stay tuned folks!
